Writing Deadlines

I’ve always excelled in meeting deadlines whether writing or production or other, really. But somehow I got the dates mixed up for a publisher proposal submission deadline – I thought it was tonight at midnight, EST. I was thinking about it last evening, thinking about the blurb I still needed to write and thought I’d check the date, just in case. Whoa! The deadline was last night at midnight. So I hustled into my writing and music studio and got all the pieces together and submitted with two hours to spare.

All of that stimulation set my brain on fire and I couldn’t get to sleep last night. It reminded me of when I worked swing shift as a production artist in the graphics department for a major printer in San Francisco in my twenties. I totally loved it but it did take me a while to unwind after work. So last night I think I finally dozed off at about 4:30 a.m. and woke up with the cat yelling for food at 6:15 a.m. Yikes! So far I’m still running on adrenaline because it felt so good to submit again – it had been a while.

While awake I wrote the “Changes” poem on my iPhone in bed. And then I thought some more about the submission and realized my blurb didn’t really convey the story I was trying to tell – I left out the romance. And this for a romance line. Ooops! Oh well, whatever happens happens. The main thing for submitting the proposal was to get back into the writing game. And that felt totally awesome!
