“I’ll Always Have San Francisco” (#tbt)

I’ll always have San Francisco” my dad told me after we met and he talked about his honeymoon with my mother in San Francisco as he waited to be deployed for Korea. Two days ago was the first wedding anniversary after his death in July. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to acknowledge it or ignore it. She’d sent him a “Dear John” letter before I was born, which complicated our relationship. But we both got a tiny bit of closure through my novel, “Letters on Balboa Island” inspired by their story and my imagination. He loved it! And I love you, dad!

He so loved San Francisco and unknown to me at the time, he would visit there often during those years I lived there. No wonder I’m sometimes tempted to move back.
