Well, you saw our new kitten being totally fascinated by Push2 in Ableton Live in this video, but now it looks like he loves Logic Pro, too. Even he can’t decide which one to use – lol!
DJ Kat’s Best of FAWM 2022 (#Mixcloud)
I’ve uploaded a DJ track of my favorite songs I did for FAWM 2022.
I encourage all producers out there to finish their tracks and get them out there because that makes it real. That’s how you get better.
All-Star Cast of the “60SKULLS Gimme15bertha” #FAWM #music #corpse #skirmish
The coolest thing about FAWM is the community of fascinating and talented musicians of multiple genres from all over the world. They’ve generously invited me into their world and I’m honored to be counted as one of them, striving to be worthy.
The most talented, in my mind, goes by the name of “Wolf” and has put together an awesome track that will blow your mind, and I don’t use that phrase loosely. He was our “cruise director” for this mishmash of talent, creating and coordinating the birthday party of the century, Bertha’s 60th. Happy birthday, Bertha!
You might find me sprinkled throughout, but I’m the most proud of being called the “DJ” under the name of SBS2018.
Catch a sneak peek by Wolf, whose vocals I absolutely love (David Bowie, right?, followed by the full track available on Bandcamp.
Please like, share, download, and tell your friends (and I never say that either). But I would love for these people to be recognized for their talent, individually and as collaborators.
Btw, headphones recommended.
2021 Accomplishments, 2022 Goals
I couldn’t let this year pass by without acknowledging what I’ve accomplished artistically in 2021.
The top 3 accomplishments of 2021 are:
- FAWM (February Album Writing Month) in February – write 14 songs during the month of February. I believe this is the first year I met that goal
- 50/90 (write 50 songs in 90 days – I wrote 60) – meeting that goal was also a first for me – my top 12 (plus a bonus track) were uploaded as an album on Bandcamp.
- NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International) – I managed to use all 12 of my membership feedback credits, which is another first for me
The top 3 goals for 2022:
Upgrading my Reverbnation account to Pro for 2022. As for the rest, I haven’t really locked this down yet. Under consideration:
- Ableton Push
As vague as usual when it comes to writing vs music. Some things I will just have to let unfold.
Wishing you all the best in 2022!
Using Push with Logic Pro 10.7
Torn between Ableton Live and Logic mostly because of my investment in Push, I started playing around with the Drum Sequencer in Logic using the new 10.7 record feature, and Push as the controller. It was a little wild, but so freeing and fun! Here’s a little clip of me jamming on the drums using Push.
Why I Almost Reverted to Logic Pro 10.6 from Logic 10.7
I started to think that Logic Pro 10.7 was overkill for me and was introducing too many problems. This guy sums it up well (I really have little use for any of the 5 good features and the 5 poor features are a bit frustrating):
After watching that, I headed for my second studio in the garage to return to the simplicity of GarageBand running on an older version of MacOS, feeling a sense of accomplishment. But that was too easy.
i returned to my main studio upstairs to reinstall Logic 10.6 on the new Monterey MacOS feeling somewhat defeated. Maybe two updates were just too much to deal with at once. Staring at Push on my desktop, I fiddled with Ableton. Shouldn’t I master that, having invested so much money?
But I can’t resist a challenge and I prefer Logic when I’m creating anything other than House music. Besides, I’m just so mesmerized by the call of Logic Pro 10.7 and its possibilities.
What Disco, Metal, Rock, and House Music Have in Common
Major influences on today’s music. House Music Godfather Marshall Jefferson said (in Electronic Musician) his early influences were Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. But he moved on to club music because he thought only big, sweaty men went to Zeppelin and Deep Purple and he wanted to meet some women. Ha! Not entirely true, though – lol!
Those were also my influences and my friends and I went to plenty of concerts. And if you read the comments on YouTube, you’ll see that other women were/are fans, too.
