Kathy grew up in Southern California near Disneyland and the beach with a book in one hand and a transistor radio in the other. She began writing stories about family and wrote her first song with a childhood friend. They called themselves the “Screamie Birds.”
When she was reunited with her father, she discovered that music and baseball are part of her family heritage. Her grandpa was, not only a musician, but a pitcher in the minor leagues. And while she considers herself a Los Angeles Angels baseball fan, the first pro baseball game she attended was the Dodgers vs. SF Giants at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers won that game, but later her father told her, “The Dodgers will break your heart.”
He read everything she wrote, getting to know his daughter through her writing. Letters on Balboa Island was his favorite, but before he passed away, he told her to “Keep writing. You must fulfill your destiny.” Powerful words from a father to a daughter.
