SCREAMIE BIRDS MUSIC

I must have been born singing. I’ve heard stories about singing along with my stepdad as he played the guitar when I was so young, I had no idea what the words were.

I sang all throughout school, got my first electronic instrument on my 7th birthday, played around with the piano, violin, and guitar. But the drums were my secret passion. Later, I asked my dad about that and he said, “All my kids play the drums.” I didn’t know him growing up, so I had no idea I came by it honestly – lol!

The first time I heard live music, I went nuts. We were at Disneyland and I heard this music coming from Tomorrowland Terrace and I practically ran there to get closer. Later, I learned one of my uncle used to play there.

Apparently, the whole family was some kind of musician, poet, or vocalist. Another uncle said, “Now that you know you’re a Holmes, Kat, you’re gonna have to pay attention to music.”

I was often told I had a great ear for music, mostly in school (my music teacher insisted I play an instrument so I chose the violin – lol), but also by my vocal coach in Las Vegas who was performing in “Mamma Mia” on the Strip.

Whether standing on the Elvis stage in Las Vegas or standing on the sidelines of a cruise ship stage, listening to live music, my passion for music was growing to the point where I knew I had to pay more attention to it.

I enrolled in a Modern Musician Certificate Program with Berklee School of Music focusing on songwriting and music production. By the next cruise, I was writing music and moving forward as an EDM music producer.

In honor of Uncle Don, I like to call myself “DJ Kat.” 🙂
